One thing that every business needs, aside from post-it notes, is a good business speaker to give presentations to other businesses, and to lead meetings. If you’re looking for one, then you probably understand that you need someone who isn’t afraid to speak in front of people, and someone who can influence others. Those are two major things to look for, though there are also a few other major points that you need to keep in mind, and they are these:
Organization — when you interview your potential speaker, have a look at the materials he or she has brought along. A good speaker will be able to organize their materials and have everything that they need with them when they make their presentation, and their level of preparedness during the initial interview will demonstrate their ability to do this
References — make sure the speaker you are going to hire has good references, and if the speaker is an independent, then chances are he or she will have a website, on which history, references, and testimonials are placed. When you read the references and the testimonials, make sure you follow up by contacting these people to ensure that they really did say these things. It’s very important to make sure your potential speaker has a fairly clean background and that people take him or her seriously.
Recommendations — Talk to other people that this person has worked for, and make sure that they fully recommend them. It also helps to make sure that the speaker will be taken seriously at speaking events, so take that into account as well. If this person is indeed as good as they say they are, then they will come highly recommended by literally everyone they’ve worked with, though you shouldn’t let one bad reference sway you if all the others are good
Examples — A good speaker, will have many examples of their work that you can use to determine if they are a good fit for your business or organization. If possible, ask for video examples because if they know what they’re doing, they’ll most certainly have a few to show.
Those are a few recommendations, for finding the right speaker, but in addition to that you also need to go over your budget, and make sure that you can hire the person you want. Business Speakers can get very expensive, especially if they’re good. But then again, you don’t want to get someone who is too green, as that could cause somewhat of a catastrophe for you, especially if they get up in front of a group to speak, and just sort of freeze up. You want someone who has both the experience, as well as the confidence to do this job effectively.
Before you hire anyone, make sure you get together with your current staff and get their opinions. Show your staff all of the materials that you’ve collected on this potential employee. Show them the videos, the person’s website, the references, and once all that is done, do some more research. Talk to other companies, make sure their record is clean and that they haven’t caused trouble ant any other job
The business speaker is a very important part of your organization, and you must ensure that you get the right person for the job. I suggest going directly to the website of a highly regarded event speaker in South Africa that is also available to speak internationally.
